We will start this post today with a conversation on methane. You would probably know methane as cow flatulence (Otherwise known as farts), yet there is another way that produces methane.
People think that it’s okay just to chuck your food waste (eg. banana peels, mandarin skins, apple cores) in the bin, because it will just break down in landfill, right? Right. But. (of course there’s a but!) Imagine an apple core, chucked in a landfill. Then imagine a few days later hundreds of kilograms of trash dumped on top of that one apple core. That apple core can’t break down properly, so instead of as if it was in the bush and producing the amount of carbon dioxide as it took growing, it produces methane. So, in conclusion of this post, don’t put your food waste in the bin.
