The surprising amount of meat that is sold each year

Updated: May 5

Have you ever wondered how much meat is sold each year, if not everybody is vegan or vegetarian?

Yes? You have?

Well, you, my fellow reader, have literally just clicked on the answer.

Unsurprisingly, we eat a whopping 360 million tonnes of meat and 156 million tonnes of fish each year.

If you hadn't noticed already, that is a BIG number.

If we could all cut down on meat, maybe just a bit, we might be able to take pressure off of natural ecosystems. (See Lily's post about sustainable recipes)

And we could probably make sure that a lot animals could have a long, fun-filled life.

You could be reading this and thinking, "Well, why does it matter if animals live a good life or not?,"

Well, it matters because animals are special. Read my post about animal cruelty, and by the end of that, you'll probably be as mad and as sad as i am.

Anyway, I want you ALL to understand how special animals are. without them, there would be nothing left. No food (and I am not encouraging meat-eaters by saying this) , No milk to feed infants or younger children, no farms, and probably even no houses.

We probably wouldn't be alive without animals.

We are just standing around, living our lives when we don't even realise what animals do to help us. And what do we give them in return?

NOTHING.

There are people out there who probably think that they are better than the precious creatures who helped build society.

NO.

NOT TRUE.

Thank you readers!

See you soon!
